Elite: Dangerous arrives on Steam, another U-turn for Frontier

elite dangers on steam players won't get a key - whatwasithinking.co.uk

So, the kickstarter campaign-funded Elite: Dangerous has been out for a little while now, and people are enjoying it (Metacritic giving it a 80/100). I for one really enjoy it, though I admit I should be playing it more.

Anyway, Frontier Developments, the company behind it made a serious U-Turn during the developments of the game, changing it from offline-enabled (as originally planned for the release) to requiring an always-on connection (though, they have made decent strides towards only requiring a very limited connection to be able to play the game.

Now, what many hoped would just be an April Fool’s joke, Frontier’s latest space sim made it onto Steam, despite David Braben’s original comment that he doesn’t see a reason for ever going there. Not only that, right now it not possible to activate your already purchased version of Elite: Dangerous on Steam.

Obviously, fans are pissed. Some of them have spent a decent amount of money on Kickstarter or in the Elite: Dangerous shop to fund the game, and having executive producer Michael Brookes tell people that there is no plan to give existing players Steam keys has just added fuel to the fire.

Being a friend of Steam, and a backer of a number of kickstarter campaigns, having one central location for my games, with the same friends list and same game tracking and achievements display is a very nice convenience, and as a backer of the game I’d like to state, for the record, that I’d feel very much entitled to a key, seeing that I helped fund the game, or at least at a very (very) high discount.

Edit: Looks like the complaints and requests are gaining traction:

Let’s hope for the best…

Unboxing of the New Nintendo 3DS Ambassador Edition (UK’s first!)

Yup, the first unboxing video of one of the very first (and very limited) New Nintendo 3DS Ambassador Editions!

Since this is my first unboxing video I’d like to ask you to cut me some slack during the video 😉

The New Nintendo 3DS will require a MicroSD SHDC memory card (see here for more information), so you may need to purchase a new card if you haven’t got one yet.

New Bloodborne footage from The Game Awards

From Software, the makers of the Souls games, has revealed new gameplay footage from its highly anticipated PS4 Sgame Bloodborne at this weekend’s The Game Awards.

The new footage focuses heavily on the multiplayer component, which appears to be showing three-player co-op!

Plus, we also get to see a makeshift flamethrower made from a modified lantern in action!

Anyway, without much further ado: here is the footage:

How to change your amiibo’s appearance

How to change your amiibo's colour palette - whatwasithinking.co.uk

Now, the amiibo’s just arrived, and you’re likely going to use them for Super Smash Bros right away! As you know, when you first connect your amiibo, you’ll be asked to enter a name and choose a colour palette. But can you change it after you made your selection?

You can, by following these simple steps:

  1. Go to Games & More and select amiibo
  2. Scan scan the amiibo you want to change
  3. Once scanned, press Y
  4. Keep the owner (if you want to, otherwise change it here) and choose the colour palette / appearance
  5. Done

Have fun! 🙂

The problem with Assassin’s Creed Unity’s graphics settings

So I’ve been playing around with Assassin’s Creed Unity using ShadowPlay (nVidia’s recording software), playing around with graphics qualities, anti-aliasing etc, and to be brutally honest, it still looks awful.

If you look at the video in full-screen / 1080p/60fps (you’ll need Chrome for that to see it properly) you’ll see what I mean…. crowds, buildings in the distance, even the character himself look washed out, blurry, low-res even.

I’ll need to spend a few hours in the settings and fixing up some config files I guess before I actually enjoy playing it 🙁

Some Assassin’s Creed Unity Gameplay

Just me playing around with Asassin’s Creed Unity on the PC.

About the game:

Paris, 1789. The French Revolution turns a once-magnificent city into a place of terror and chaos. Its cobblestoned streets run red with the blood of commoners who dare to rise up against an oppressive aristocracy. Yet as the nation tears itself apart, a young man named Arno will embark upon an extraordinary journey to expose the true powers behind the Revolution. His pursuit will throw him into the middle of a ruthless struggle for the fate of a nation, and transform him into a true Master Assassin…
